Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders have played in our collective history. The annual celebration takes place in May to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843. May was also chosen to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad (whose tracks were laid down by Chinese immigrants) on May 10, 1869.

The AAPI guide offers book recommendations, a breakdown of important AAPI historical and cultural achievements, an article about the impact of climate change on Asian and Pacific Islander countries, short films, a spotlight on artist Susan Chen, and information about two local affinity groups (Arizona AANHPI for Equity and the MCCCD Asian Pacific Islander Affinity Group).

On May 20 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Rio Salado is hosting a virtual event for AAPI Month! Join us for a panel discussion called "Voices of Leadership: A Panel with AAPI Trailblazers." This Webex panel event aims to honor and celebrate the voices of AAPI educators and community members.
