Step 2: Take the Placement Test


The Accuplacer College Placement Test is required for:

  • Students who are new to college and wish to pursue an academic degree or program at Rio Salado.
  • Students who wish to take a math, reading, and/or English course, and who have not met the requirement (prerequisite) for the course through prior college credit.

Why do I need to test for ACCUPLACER?

Accuplacer is the placement test used at Rio Salado College and the Maricopa County Community College District. Accuplacer is an untimed, computer-based, adaptive placement test that is designed to identify your skill levels in English language usage, Reading, and Math.

Prepare and Study for the Test

  • Complete Step 1: Get Admitted
  • Have your current, valid, legible, state or federally-issued photo ID.
  • Review Study Materials!


Placement Testing is available at the Rio Salado Testing Centers conveniently located throughout Maricopa County.

Placement exams at Rio Salado College are offered on a walk-in basis. This means that you don't need to schedule an appointment. Once you're prepared to test, simply come in to one of our Testing locations. Please make sure to arrive at least 60 minutes before we close.

Students living outside Maricopa County may request to have their exams proctored at an approved proctor site.

View Test Scores

After testing, you will receive a printout with your test scores. Additionally, test scores are accessible in your Student Center at and in RioCompass.


Students are permitted one re-test in English, reading or math after a 24-hour waiting period. An additional re-test is permitted no sooner than three months from the oldest valid score date.
