The Strategic Plan is driven by the college Vision, Mission, Purposes, Core Values and Core Practices.
Rio Salado College has a long history of innovation and improvement, and is a leader in higher education because of recognizing and implementing the principles of Total Quality Management, Customer Service and Customer Astonishment, the Learning Organization, and other practices that promote the sustainability of the college’s unique mission, vision, and culture. As such, Rio 2012: The Strategic Plan for Innovation, Improvement and Growth is the result of over eighteen years of disciplined effort.
For Rio 2012, one year was dedicated to conceptualization and planning along with the exploration and adoption of the Balanced Scorecard perspective to approach strategic planning. The second year was devoted to communicating the plan to the entire college and initiating implementation. To facilitate this structured process, the Leadership Council, comprised of Faculty Chairs and Administration, was reconstituted. Environmental scanning, internal and external needs assessments and other data collection occurred during this time period as well. Rio Salado College has now moved into the comprehensive implementation phase—which will take five years. While the strategic plan is central to the initiatives that will keep Rio Salado vibrant and effective, its eight strategic goals align very well with the Maricopa Community College District Governing Board Goals & Measures and the Beyond Boundaries initiatives established by the MCCCD Chancellor, Dr. Rufus Glasper.
