
The GED (high school equivalency) test is given by the Arizona Department of Education and covers five subject areas: Language Arts, Reading; Language Arts, Writing; Mathematics; Science; and Social Studies. Rio Salado College provides free preparation classes for the test through its Adult Basic Education program. Classes are located throughout Maricopa County and are self-paced. Requirements to take the GED test vary from state to state. The requirements provided by the Arizona Department of Education include:
The applicant must be at least 16 years of age and have not received a high school diploma or equivalency certificate or diploma. If the applicant is between the ages of 16 and 18 years of age, he or she may take the GED test but must provide:
- A notarized statement of consent to take the test signed by a parent or legal guardian.
- Verification from the last school attended that the applicant has officially withdrawn or been withdrawn.
- Two forms of identification, one of which is photo identification.
