The Zoltan Kodaly Pedagogical Institute of Music is located in Kecskemet and attracts musically gifted students from all over the world. Kecskemet, the birthplace of Zoltan Kodaly, is a small city an hour southeast of Budapest. Kecskemet, with a population of approximately 100,000 has natural mineral baths and many small restaurants and stores. Founded primarily as a center of post-graduate study for students who have had previous music education and training, the Institute now offers a strong and expanded undergraduate program in music theory and practice. The Institute's library consists of two sections: one containing over 20,000 musical scores, books in a variety of languages, and a wide collection of LP's and other recordings; the other containing the archives of the work of Zoltan Kodaly and works of Hungarian music teachers.Academic Program Highlights
The program is based on the Kodaly music pedagogy. Designed for music education and performance majors, students expand their musical knowledge, develop musicianship, enhance teaching concepts, and observe music classes. All courses are taught in English. Representative courses cover musical theory, history and appreciation with listings such Music Literature, Piano, Applied Music, Music of the World's Culture, Solfege, Voice, Hungarian Culture, and Ensemble Museum. The program is offered every fall semester, and students may earn up to 21 semester credits.Program Duration

For all courses taken at the Zoltan Kodaly Pedagogical Institute of Music where there are equivalent courses in the MCCCD, the official record for those credits will be posted on the MCCCD, Rio Salado College, transcript.Eligibility
Students at the junior and senior level with a 3.0 GPA will be given priority for admission; two years of music study at the college level, two letters of recommendation, transcripts, a statement of purpose, and an application placement test are also required. Students will need to provide an audition tape as part of their application to the program.Student Life
The Institute was remodeled in 1973-1975 from an 18th century monastery; classrooms and faculty offices are on the lower floor, and students are accommodated on the upper floors. Each student room (single, double, or triple accommodations at the Institute is equipped with a piano and sound system, a sink, and traditional furnishings. Students are responsible for preparing their own meals; there is a common kitchen with multiple cooking facilities. Students learn and live in an international setting with students who represent up to 15 different countries.Costs
The cost of a semester may vary as changes occur in the economies and currencies of the U.S. and Hungary. The factors listed below are used to calculate program costs.Financial Aid

- Program costs in Hungary, including instruction, housing, application and orientation fees, insurance, books and field trips.
- Transportation to Hungary.
Any financial aid for which students are eligible during the course of their study at Rio Salado College, including Pell Grants, can be used toward the cost of the program in Hungary.For More Information
