Maynooth College, founded in 1795, with a student body of about 4,000, is located in a quiet area of Maynooth, a suburb fifteen miles from the Dublin city center conveniently accessed by tram. The town offers a variety of shops, traditional Irish pubs, and other student attractions and excursions to Limerick, Galway, Belfast, and other Irish towns are within three hours' travel by train. In 1910 St. Maynooth became a recognized College of the National University of Ireland, and, since 1966, the College has been open to lay students of Arts, Sciences, Philosophy, Celtic Studies, and Theology. Anthropology, Sociology, and Physics are especially strong fields of study at Maynooth College.Academic Program Highlights
The academic focus of the program at Maynooth is divided between required (core) courses and integrated courses. The core courses are designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the development of the Irish society. CCIS students take at least three of the following three-credit core courses: Anglo-Irish Literature, A History of Irish Theater, Political Perspectives on Northern Ireland, The Social Structure of Modern Ireland, and Modern Irish History. In addition, students may elect other courses from the general curriculum of Maynooth. These two-credit integrated courses are chosen from the following departments: Anthropology, Economics, Geography, Literature, History, Greek and Roman Civilization, Philosophy, Theology, and Sociology. Students choose their courses from these departments once they arrive on campus. The program offers up to 12-16 undergraduate credits.Program Duration
