Program Site
The Moscow academy for the Humanities and Socail Sciences is located in Moscow, a treasure house of Russian culture, featuring many art museums, theaters, concert halls, and public libraries. The Institute of Youth is located on a 150-acre site in the Vykhino district, known for its parks and gardens, with easy access from downtown Moscow by bus and subway. Numerous shops, a movie theater, a museum, and an open air market are all within close proximity. The Institute is a State/Private higher educational institute with an academic faculty of 200 scholars and researchers. Its modern, well-equipped buildings include classrooms with televisions and VCRs, and a large library.

Academic Program Highlights
The Moscow academy for the Humanities and Socail Sciences program seeks to involve students personally and actively with the Russian people and their language, history, art, and traditions. In addition to a required intensive Russian language course, which is taught at all levels by lecturers trained at the Pushkin Institute, students earn up to 15 undergraduate credits through the following courses offered at the Institute of Youth: Elementary through Advanced Russian Language, Russia Today, General Survey of Russian History and Lecture Series, Survey of Russian Literature (XIX-XX Centuries), Russian Musical History and Modern Life, and Survey of Russian Cultural History in Excursions. .Russia Today is a unique weekly lecture series in which students dialogue with distinguished lecturers and political officials from throughout Russia. In addition to the academic curriculum, internships are open to students at any level of Russian, but some internships do have language requirements. A five-day excursion to St. Petersburg at the end of the semester is included in the program.

For all courses taken at the Institute of Youth where there are equivalent courses in the MCCCD, the official record for those credits will be posted on the MCCCD, Rio Salado College, transcript.

Eligibility
The program is open to students at any undergraduate level with a 2.5 GPA; transcripts; 3 letters of recommendation.

Student Life
Students are housed in dormitory suites at the Institute which include eight bedrooms with double occupancy, a sitting room, a kitchen and bath. Students interact with Russian students on campus informally and on weekend cultural tours around Moscow, including theater excursions, walking tours and musical performances. Students can also volunteer to serve as English tutors on campus. Facilities that are accessible to students include an indoor swimming pool, basketball court, gym, sauna, tennis courts, soccer field, and, in the winter, cross-country skiing within the Institute's grounds.

Costs
The cost of a semester may vary as changes occur in the economies and currencies of the U.S. and Russia. The factors listed below are used to calculate program costs.

  • Tuition at Rio Salado College (assessed according to the student's residency status).
  • Program costs in Russia, including instruction, housing, application and orientation fees, insurance, books and field trips.
  • Transportation to Russia.
Financial Aid
Any financial aid for which students are eligible during the course of their study at Rio Salado College, including Pell Grants, can be used toward the cost of the program in Russia.
