Rio Salado College achieves its educational mission at ASPC-Lewis by utilizing academic teachers, education technicians and administrative staff to support the needs of the students. Rio Salado has been providing academic services to the male inmate population for approximately six (6) years and provides a wide range of educational services to this population. Upon admission, students are assessed for academic needs, and educational programs are tailored to meet those needs. The Adult Basic Education (ABE) and GED prep programs are designed to assist students in the seamless transition from one educational program to the other. Upon completion of the functional literacy component of ABE, students are automatically enrolled into the GED program. Students receiving their GED’s are encouraged to enroll in one of the work based education programs or distance-learning classes.
