Women enrolled in this program participate in a true work-based learning experience that teaches skills while providing assistance to Motor Pool in the maintenance of over 180 state-owned vehicles. The Automotive Technology program is duplicated at ASPC-Lewis where the male inmates, in addition to their coursework, maintain a fleet of vehicles and buses for the Complex.
This experience helps prepare both populations for successful integration upon release from prison. As licensed test sites for the nationally recognized Automotive Excellence Service (ASE) certificate, Rio Salado College at Perryville and Lewis provides an opportunity for students to become ASE certified in a number of areas. This test indicates proficiency in the field and is the highest recognized certification in the Automotive industry. The combined curriculum, training and testing components allow for a much easier transition into the workplace.
