Early Childhood Elementary/Secondary/Special Education

Early Childhood Education The Early Childhood Education candidates are preparing to teach birth through third grade.  This program includes 48 credits with in-person practicums for some courses.  Department of Education requirements for teaching birth through third grade. *  The Early Childhood Education program will be offered at Rio Salado College in the Fall 2008.

Elementary Education - The Elementary Education candidates are preparing to teach kindergarten through grade 8. This program includes 45 credits with a practicum for the majority of the courses.

Secondary Education - The Secondary Education candidates are preparing to teach grades 7 through 12. This program includes 35 credits with a practicum for the majority of the courses. The candidate entering this program should have a major in an area commonly taught in secondary school: Mathematic, English, Science, Social Sciences, Languages, Drama/ Theater, Art, Music or consult an advisor for further coursework.

Special Education - The Special Education program is designed for individuals who wish to become Special Education teachers working in a cross-categorical classroom in grades kindergarten through 12th grade. Cross-categorical Special Education includes students with Emotional Disabilities, Learning Disabilities, Mental Challenges, and/or Health/Orthopedic Impairments. This program includes 48 credits with a practicum for the majority of the courses.
