RISE Learning for Life

RISE Learning for Life

"A grassroots community-based organization created for and by mature individuals to afford them the opportunity for stimulation, enlightenment and interaction with peers in an environment that encourages lifelong learning and friendship."

What is RISE Learning for Life?

RISE Learning for Life is a self-directed organization governed by its own elected officers and operating in accordance with its own constitution.  RISE is hosted by Rio Salado College's Lifelong Learning Center in Surprise, Arizona.

RISE is one of over 200 Institutes for Learning in Retirement in the nation. Learning in retirement provides interaction with peers, one of the most beneficial and enjoyable experiences one can have. Throughout the country, more and more colleges and universities are developing similar programs.

RISE classes are often discussion groups or workshops led by member facilitators, although some are presented by experts from hospitals, universities and the community. Classes are offered during the day and each is about two hours long.

The RISE curriculum is set by a Council appointed Curriculum Committee with input from membership. Classes cover subjects on history, science, the arts and humanities as well as current events.

Many classes are completed in two hours but some classes, on special subjects, are offered as a series once a week for two or more weeks during a session.  Best of all, there is no homework, no exams and no stress.  Just pure fun in learning.  It's learning in retirement.

Partnership

RISE and the West Valley Art Museum, 11400 Avenue of the Arts, Surprise, through grants from the Arizona Humanities Council, have formed a partnership to offer special series of presentations. The programs are presented at the Museum and are free to the public.
