Are all ESL courses online or does the college offer in-person ESL classes?
Most of the ESL courses are online. Rio Salado does offer some in-person ESL
classes. Go to: ESL Courses Offered.

that are available (if any).
Do I need to own a computer to take an online ESL course?
No, you need access to a computer that has an Internet connection. As a registered student, you can use any of Rio Salado's open computer labs. For more information on computer lab locations, go to: Locations Page
You can use the public library or any other place where you have permission to use a computer with Internet access.
How much time does it take to complete an ESL course?
The courses are 12-14 weeks long. You will spend time reading and studying your textbook, reading, studying, and completing your assignments, and practicing. The online course requires as much time (or more) as an in-person ESL course.
How do I know which ESL course to take?
The placement test will tell you and your advisor which course is right for
you. The placement test is required before you can enroll in any ESL course.
Why should I take a credit ESL course when there are free non-credit
courses available?
Rio Salado College offers a variety of non-credit ESOL courses. These courses
help build a foundation for English language skills. If you want to go further
in studying English, then the credit classes are for you.
Are there scholarships available for ESL courses?
Yes, if you qualify for federal financial aid, there may be scholarships available.

Do I need a social security number?
Proposition 300, which requires further residency verification to determine
tuition rates, recently went into effect. Read
