50+ Encore Programs
Rio Salado College has been awarded an Encore Career Grant from the Metlife Foundation/Civic Ventures Community College Encore Career Project.
This grant supports a targeted retraining program directed at adults over the age of 50 who are eager to prepare for new careers in education.
It supports Rio Salado College in offering online teacher certification programs to eligible adults, who are interested in re-careering and pursuing teaching positions in early childhood, elementary, secondary, special education and arts education.
Based on an individual’s areas of interest, experience, educational backgrounds, and employment situations, candidates are able to enroll in one of four online teacher certification programs.
The programs are:
Post Baccalaureate Teacher Prep for candidates who have a bachelor’s degree and may be working fulltime
Teacher in Residence for candidates who have a bachelor’s degree and are working in the classroom while completing their teacher certification
Teacher Education for candidates who do not have a college degree
Troops to Teachers for military personnel transitioning from the military to second careers.
In-person orientation sessions will be held at Tempe Connections Café in the Tempe Public Library, Rio Lifelong Learning Center, and additional locations throughout Maricopa County. An online orientation video is currently in development for individuals located outside of Maricopa County.
