Free Software

You may need some or all of the following free software to complete your course successfully. Please verify that you have the following applications and download them if necessary.

MS Office 365 ProPlus

As a Rio Salado student, you can download Office 365 ProPlus for free through the Microsoft Student Advantage program.

RealOne Media

The RealOne Media Player allows your computer to display video movies and is used in several Rio Salado courses.

Internet Explorer

For Windows users, Rio Salado recommends the Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser.


For Mac users, Rio Salado recommends using the Opera browser for RioLearn course material. You may have problems accessing your student email with Safari or other browsers.

Adobe Acrobat Reader

The Adobe Reader allows you to view PDF (portable document format) files and is used extensively in Rio Salado courses and on other web sites.

Adobe Flash Player

The Adobe Flash Player allows your web browser to display interactive multimedia web pages.

Student Software Discounts

You may be required to purchase and install additional computer software for certain college-specific courses. This software is not provided by Rio Salado; however, as a Rio student, you’re eligible to purchase ones such as Microsoft Office, Adobe and others at a substantial discount.

**Once you are logged into your RioLearn account and access your syllabus, you will be able to view the "Software Purchase Program" for students.

Norton Antivirus

In addition, we strongly recommend you purchase antivirus software for your computer. The Rio Salado Bookstore bookstore carries Norton Antivirus, but you may also purchase it at most stores that carry software obtain it where sold elsewhere.
