Ottawa University, noted for academic excellence since 1865, and Rio Salado College, a national leader in educational innovation and distance learning technology, have joined together in a national partnership to create two new professional degrees uniquely designed for members of the law enforcement industry.
Bachelor of Arts in Police Science
The first of these degrees offered by Ottawa University is the Bachelor of Arts in Police Science. This degree will be the next step for those police officers who have successfully completed a Rio Salado-affiliated police academy within the United States, completed the remaining hours of required general education, and received the Associate of Applied Science degree in Law Enforcement Technology from Rio Salado. Those who have graduated from a Rio Salado-affiliated police academy can choose to complete their Associate and Baccalaureate requirements simultaneously.
Bachelor of Arts in Law Enforcement Administration
The second of the degrees from Ottawa University is the Bachelor of Arts in Law Enforcement Administration. This degree is open to the general public as well as those police officers who are not graduates of a Rio Salado-affiliated academy. The upper division coursework, availability and the delivery formats are identical to those in the Police Science program.
This program is also available to non-police officers who are committed to the pursuit of a police career. The upper division coursework, availability and the delivery formats are identical to those in the Police Science program.
Guiding Principles
This program has been conceived and designed by police professionals for the working law enforcement practitioner, and is delivered primarily through distance learning. It was designed to change the face of police education in the United States and become not only the degree of choice for American peace officers, but also the standard by which all other such degree programs may be measured. To accomplish this, Rio Salado called upon the national leadership of American law enforcement for guidance as to the programs content and delivery.
