General Educational Development (GED)

Were you unable to complete high school? Now is your chance to get that diploma you have always wanted. Rio Salado offers free preparation classes for the GED (high school equivalency) test through the Adult Basic Education (ABE) program. Classes are available to individuals who can verify they are legal residents or otherwise lawfully present in the United States. These classes will prepare you to pass a series of tests for the GED/high school equivalency diploma in the area of:

  • Social Studies
  • Language Arts (Reading & Writing)
  • Science
  • Math

The GED test is given by the Arizona Department of Education . Classes are located throughout Maricopa County and are self-paced. Online preparation is also available for a fee.

Minimum Requirements

Requirements to take the GED test and locations vary from state to state. The requirements provided by the Arizona Department of Education include:

You must be at least 16 years of age and have not received your high school diploma or equivalency certificate or diploma. If you are between the ages of 16 and 18 years of age, you may take the GED test but must provide:

  • A notarized statement of consent to take the test signed by a parent or legal guardian.
  • Verification from the last school attended that the applicant has officially withdrawn or been withdrawn.
  • Two forms of identification, one of which is photo identification.

Additional general GED test information is available at: http://www.gedtest.org

Completion of a GED course of study does not guarantee that the student will pass the GED test. Every attempt is made to prepare students to successfully complete the test, but results are the individual's responsibility.
