Review Important Requirements & Resources

Students earning a certificate and/or degree through Rio’s ECEHD program will find several department requirements and resources that will help them be successful.

IMPORTANT PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

Course Observations

In various courses offered by the ECEHD department, students may conduct observations and complete internships to gain experience and perspective in the Early Childhood field. These experiences are essential to provide students with new perspectives, identify the importance of effective observation, and practice in the use of observation as a key assessment tool in determining needs, interests and development of young children. The field experiences also provide the student with the opportunity to implement meaningful activities for young children in an early childhood environment.

Student Code of Conduct

In various courses offered by the Early Childhood Education and Human Development (ECEHD) department, students may conduct observations and complete internships to gain experience and perspective in the early childhood and human development field. While taking courses at Rio Salado College, students are representatives of the college, and thus, are expected to conduct themselves in a professional and respectful manner during observations visits.

Internships

Every certificate or degree offered by Rio Salado’s Early Childhood Education and Human Development program requires students to participate in an internship.  An internship is the opportunity for a student to practice the skills you have learned or gain new skills from those experienced in the field of early childhood or family life.  By placing the student in an environment specific to their certificate or degree path, he or she has the opportunity to observe directly and work hands-on with experts in the field to enhance professional experiences and knowledge. The student may also learn a variety of techniques and strategies that are used in the workplace to interact with various age groups, learning abilities, and job functions.
