In-Person Requirements

Although Rio Salado College Educators Preparation program is online, there are in-person requirements that all students need to beware of.

Nothing prepares you better for a career in teaching than hands-on experience in a classroom. Student teachers will spend 12-weeks (or more) full-time in-person in a school setting. For additional information, read the FAQs.

Testing

All Rio Salado's Educator Preparation Program mid-terms and final exams are in-person tests. Rio Salado has testing sites conveniently located throughout Maricopa County. Students residing outside of Maricopa County will have to complete an exam proctoring request.

Field Experience

Rio Salado's Educator Preparation Program combines course content and "real world" application through required school observations and interaction in Pre-K-12 classrooms. All field experience requests must be coordinated through Rio Salado College Field Experience Coordinators. Field Experience Limitation

Due to the difficulties that schools/districts are having with placing students for field experiences during the end of the school year and/or the summer months, Rio Salado's Educator Preparation Program has deemed it necessary to cease offering coursework with field experience hours from mid-March to mid-August. It is recommended for students to utilize the Certification Admission Plan) and Field Experience and Financial Aid Planning Calendar to assist with planning out courses with field experiences.
Students may continue to take coursework with Virtual or NO field experience hours during the spring and summer months according to block calendar schedules. Preschool Internship (Early Childhood Only)

The most effective method for theory to become practice is by spending time in a classroom under the guidance of an experienced teacher. Rio Salado educator preparation students who are studying to be an early childhood educator will complete an internship in an early childhood setting of infants, toddlers, preschoolers. The internship requires 60-field experience hours to be completed in 8-weeks at a single site offering an infant, toddler and preschool setting.
