Mathematics Endorsement K-8

Student Information

The Mathematics Endorsement is optional for all K through eight teachers, but recommended for an individual in the position of mathematics specialist, consultant, interventionist or coach.

Arizona Department of Education Requirements

  1. Completed Application for Endorsement (submit upon completion of required coursework – http://www.azed.gov/educator-certification/certificate-requirement/endorsements/)
  2. Appropriate Fee (see application for endorsement)
  3. One of the following:
    a.) A photocopy of your valid IVP fingerprint card (plastic) issued on or after January 1, 2008.
            -OR-
    b.) A photocopy of your valid Arizona fingerprint clearance card (plastic) issued prior to January 1, 2008.

  4. A valid Arizona Elementary or Special Education certificate.
  5. Three years of full-time teaching experience in grades K through eight;
  6. Option A, B or C.

Option A:

  1. Eighteen semester hours to include:
    • Three semester hours of data analysis, probability and discrete mathematics;
    • Three semester hours of geometry and measurement;
    • Six semester hours of patterns, algebra and functions; and
    • Six semester hours of number and operations.
  2. Six semester hours to include:
    • Three semester hours of mathematics classroom assessment;
    • Three semester hours of research-based practices, pedagogy and instructional leadership in mathematics.

Option B:

  1. Six semester hours to include;
    • Three semester hours of mathematics classroom assessment;
    • Three semester hours of research-based practices, pedagogy and instructional leadership in mathematics.
  2. A passing score on the Middle Grade Mathematics portion (37) of the Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessment (AEPA), or a comparable middle grade mathematics exam from another state, or a valid certificate from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in middle grade mathematics.

Option C:

  • Completion of a comparable valid middle grade mathematics specialist certificate or endorsement from another state.
  • A passing score on the Middle Grade Mathematics portion (37) of the Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessment (AEPA), or a comparable middle grade mathematics exam from another state, or a valid certificate from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in middle grade mathematics.
