Structured English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement K-12

Student Information

Provisional SEI Endorsement requires:

  • Valid Arizona Fingerprint clearance card (plastic) issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety
  • Valid Arizona teaching certificate (elementary, secondary, or special education)
  • Three semester hours (45 clock hours)*
  • Teachers, Supervisors, Principals, and Superintendents certified before August 31, 2006 will be eligible for 15 clock hours
  • EDU208 - Introduction to Structured English Immersion
  • EPD220 - Introduction to Serving the English Language Learners for Certified Teachers (3 credits)

Completion SEI Endorsement requires:

  • Valid Arizona Fingerprint clearance card (plastic) issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
  • Valid Arizona teaching certificate (elementary, secondary, or special education)
  • Provisional Endorsement
  • Three semester hours (45 clock hours)**

The majority of K-12 classrooms have children who are English language learners. Rio Salado College can help provide you with the skills you need to be successful in teaching children where English is not their native language.

  • Must call Rio Salado College to register for Endorsement courses at 480-517-8580.
  • Must provide proof of a bachelor’s degree or teaching certificate before registering.

  • EPD233 - Structured English Immersion and English as a Second Language Teaching Methods for Certified Teachers** (3 credits) OR
  • EPD244 Reading and Writing in SEI/ESL Bilingual Settings** (3 credits)

Note: Post-Bacc students who have taken EDU220 Introduction to Serving English Language Learners (3 credits) and/or EDU251 Methods for Teaching Structured English Immersion (SEI) and English as a Second Language (ESL) (3 credits) have met the 45 or 90 clock hour requirement. After August 31, 2009, an additional 3 credits may be required based on your enrollment. Consult with an academic advisor for course selection.

* Required of all teachers, administrators, and supervisors.

** Can apply to both the ESL and SEI Endorsements.
