Admissions have closed for the Spring semester 2019 TIR Program. The Teacher in Residence (TIR) program is currently accepting online applications for Fall 2019. Fall Semester begins August 19, 2019. Applications must be fully processed and student eligible to enroll NO LATER THAN September 3, 2019. There is a two-week operational process timeline for program entrance and receipt of the Alternative Teaching application documents, please plan accordingly. Completed applications received prior to, June 2019, will be held at Rio Salado College. Beginning June 17, 2019, once the application is fully completed you will be contacted to make an appointment to go over program requirements and receive your ADE application packet to take to the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) for the issuance of the Alternative Teaching certificate. For further information, contact 480-517-8140. In addition, register for a Non-credit class EDO100-101TR. This orientation class will further explain the expectations of this program. There is no cost for this non-credit course.

Teacher in Residence Programs

The Teacher in Residence Programs allow students who already hold a bachelor's degree to receive employment in a classroom while simultaneously completing their education coursework toward certification. The Post Baccalaureate Teacher in Residence Programs are approved by the Arizona Department of Education and utilizes the Alternative Teaching Certificate (formally known as the Intern Teaching Certificate).

Students must be recommended by a school district for employment, as a contracted teacher, provide a current IVP fingerprint card, and appropriate passing subject knowledge exam scores. If teaching in an English Language Development (ELD) classroom, students must also successfully complete an approved Structured English Immersion workshop or course.

NOTE: All application materials are purged after one year from receipt when program enrollment does not transpire.
