Music Education

Student Information

The Teacher-In-Residence intern program allows students who already hold a bachelor's degree to receive employment in a classroom while simultaneously completing their education coursework toward certification.

Students in the Music Education program are preparing to teach grades
K-12. This program requires 34 credits including in-person field experiences in both elementary and secondary teaching methods as well as 12 credits of full-time student teaching. Students must verify content proficiency through the passing score of a federally-approved content exam (AEA).

Documentation Needed: Responsibility of:
Completed Intern application Student
If outside of Maricopa County - check to Arizona Department of Education (ADE) for $60 per content area + $60 for provisional SEI. Student
Valid IVP fingerprint clearance card Student
Formal admissions packet to Rio Salado, including transcripts Student
Passing score on AEA Subject Knowledge Student
Completion of SEI workshop or course below Student

Completion of 50% of program coursework – one month prior to intern certificate expiration. Student
Application for extension of intern certificate –submit to Rio Salado Student
If not already completed, register for Elementary or Secondary Professional Knowledge portion of AEA. Passing scores to Rio prior to end of Year 2. Student
Submit RSC official transcript for application extension. Student
RSC must provide proof of satisfactory progress. Rio Salado College

Participation in the Induction Program is mandatory for all TIR students. If you wish to receive credit for this program please notify a TIR staff member and you will be enrolled in the following two courses.
