K-12 Emotional Disabilities

The Teacher-In-Residence intern program allows students who already hold a bachelor's degree to receive employment in a classroom while simultaneously completing their education coursework toward certification.

Students in the Special Education program are preparing to teach grades
K-12. Special Education certifications include Cross-categorical, Emotional Disabilities, Learning Disabilities, Mental Challenges, Orthopedic Impairments, and Other Health Impairments. This program requires 51 credits including in-person field experiences in many of the courses as well as 8 credits of full-time student teaching. Students must verify content proficiency through the passage of a federally-approved content exam (AEPA/NES).

If outside of Maricopa County - check to Arizona Department of Education (ADE) for $60 per content area + $60 for provisional SEI. Student
Valid fingerprint clearance card Student
Formal admissions packet to Rio Salado, including transcripts Student
Passing score on AEPA Subject Knowledge Student
Completion of SEI workshop or course below Student

Complete 1 course or equivalent workshop* to obtain Intern Certificate. Second course MUST be completed prior to completion of the TIR program.

*Workshop hours must be converted to college credit prior to completion of the TIR program.

Documentation Needed: Responsibility of:
Completion of 50% of program coursework – one month prior to intern certificate expiration. Student
Application for extension of intern certificate –submit to Rio Salado Student
If not already completed, register for Elementary Professional Knowledge portion of AEPA.Passing scores to Rio prior to end of Year 2. Student
Submit RSC transcript for application extension. Student
RSC must provide proof of satisfactory progress. Rio Salado College
