Rio Salado College's General Education Tracks (GET) are among the most important and valuable learning experiences you will ever have. Through general education, you will develop a commitment to continuous learning, an openness to the views of others, a sensitivity to diversity, an awareness of global/cultural/social changes, and a proficiency in information literacy.

Rio offers 3 general education tracks characterized by academic assessment and appropriate course placement, personalized support services, quality instruction, and dedicated, expert faculty. These tracks provide the essential skills necessary for developing a foundation of knowledge that will enable you to successfully achieve your career and educational goals.

Transfer Essentials

If your educational goal is to transfer to a university and complete a Bachelor's degree, then this track is for you. It creates a step-by-step transfer plan that allows you to transfer courses successfully from the community college to a university. The essential components of this plan include:
  • Assistance with course selection and appropriate sequencing
  • Efficient use of prior learning credits (as appropriate)
  • Planning for a streamlined time-to-degree-completion

Academic Essentials

If your educational goal is to learn or improve the basics of Mathematics, Reading, Writing, and/or Communication, then this track is for you. It provides an efficient plan for increasing your skills in the following areas:
  • Placement in the right course at the right level for your skills
  • Access to personalized support throughout your course work
  • Development of strategies for learning that work for you in all parts of your life

Career and Community Essentials

If your educational goal is to strengthen your job skills or become more involved in your community, then this track is for you. It provides learning in the following areas:
  • Improving technological and information literacy skills
  • Understanding how to work with different people and situations
  • Increasing global and environmental awareness
  • Access to Post-Baccalaureate opportunities
