Admission Requirements

Rio Salado College welcomes your application as an international student, and our staff will make every effort to assist you. Our admission requirements conform to the regulations of the U.S. Government for issuing F-1 student visa documents. If you have a question in completing this form, please contact the Office of International Education (480) 517-8416.

You can use this checklist to help you keep track of these requirements. All documents must be originals. No facsimile copy or photocopy is acceptable.

Application Checklist
1. HIGH SCHOOL / SECONDARY SCHOOL GRADUATE

An international student must have graduated from high school or secondary school that is equivalent to the twelfth grade in the United States. It is recommended that you graduated in the upper 50% of your class in order to ensure success in academic or vocational programs at Rio Salado College.

An official transcript of your school record (translated in English) must be mailed directly to Rio Salado International Office at 2323 W. 14th St., Tempe, AZ 85281.

2. ENGLISH PROFICIENCY

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is used to determine competency in English. A TOEFL score of 500 on a Paper Based test , or a score of 173 on a Computer Based test, or a score of 61 on an Internet Based test, or equivalent proficiency as determined by the Dean/Director of admissions is required. TOEFL test results must be mailed directly from the Educational Testing Services to this college.

Rio Salado Community College's TOEFL code is _7959_. Please enter the code on your answer sheets prior to taking the exam. You must also enter the code on your score request forms if you have already taken the TOEFL.

3. TRANSCRIPTS AND/OR ACADEMIC RECORDS

Official transcripts from all colleges and/or universities must be mailed directly from the college/university attended to Rio Salado College International Office, 2323 W. 14th St., Tempe, AZ 85281. Transcripts must be translated in English, and a certified copy of the translation must be attached.

4. EVIDENCE OF FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Rio Salado College has no financial aid or scholarships for international students. Therefore, students must come fully prepared to meet all financial obligations for their entire course of study as a student including tuition, fees, books, medical insurance and all other personal expenses while in the United States.

The Certified Bank Certificate of Balance must be completed by your bank and returned with a certified affidavit of support. A copy of the form can be obtained by contacting the office of International Education or download it at:

Approximated cost for 10 months os study at Rio Salado College (includes summer session)

Out of state tuition and fees: $6,800
Textbooks and supplies: $800
Living expenses (for 10 months): $8,700
Health insurance: $1000

5. INTERNATIONAL STUDENT APPLICATION FORM
The INTERNATIONAL STUDENT APPLICATION and the RIO SALADO STUDENT INFORMATION FORMS must be completed, including your signature and date. These are the forms used for application to our college.

6. ADMISSIONS CONFIRMATION
Upon receipt of all documents, they will be reviewed for your admission to Rio Salado College. If you are accepted, you will be sent a letter of confirmation along with the I-20. If you are not accepted, you will be sent a letter with an explanation.

7. MANDATORY HEALTH INSURANCE

Health insurance is required for all international students. The International Student Health Insurance Plan offered by Rio Salado College is provided by Renaissance Agencies, Inc. Please see their web page for additional information:

A complete brochure describing the program is available on the website. The brochure has been translated into Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish. The translations are also available on the website.

Additional requirements if you are applying from another college or university within the United States:
1. An original of the I-94 card in your passport.
2. An original of the visa page in your passport.
3. An original of ALL prior I-20's.
4. A letter of transfer eligibility from current Designated School Official (DSO).
*ALL INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS MUST REGISTER FOR 12 HOURS OF CREDIT OR MORE AND MAINTAIN A MINIMUM OF 12 SEMESTER HOURS ALL THROUGH THE SEMESTER. ALL STUDENTS ON F-1 VISAS MUST PAY OUT OF STATE FEES.
