Spring 2015 In-Service Schedule

Search Warrant Preparation Course

This course will expose officers to the specific statutes, constitutional requirements and case law covering searches, seizures and detentions relative to the search warrant process, and be tested so as to show understanding.  Officers attending this course will be required to write the following search warrants and affidavits:  (1) a property-related crime; (2) a persons-related crime; (3) a drug-related activity warrant; and (4) a search warrant relative to processing a crime scene.  They will be graded on how well the search warrants are constructed and written, as well as ensuring that they have documented probable cause necessary to overcome a Motion to Suppress.  In conjunction with those warrants, the officers will be required to proficiently describe the place, person and/or vehicle to be searched as well as articulating probable cause sufficient to justify the seizure of evidence they list.
