Northern Arizona University, a university committed to student success throughout Arizona, with its motto, “keep learning without leaving”, and Rio Salado College, a national leader in educational innovation and distance learning technology, designed a degree program uniquely built for the Detention, Corrections and Law Enforcement community.
Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies (BSIS) with an emphasis in Administration of Justice (90/30)
Northern Arizona University’s BSIS/AJS is an on-line pathway available to members of the public safety community who have earned an Associate of Applied Science Degrees (AAS) in Detention Services, Corrections or Law Enforcement Technology. Officers that are interested in this program will take an additional twenty-six hours of community college restricted electives that will seamlessly transfer to Northern Arizona University and apply to the BSIS/AJS Program.
90 hours of this degree will be accessed at the community college tuition rate and the remaining 30 hours will be accessed at the Northern Arizona University rate, which in many cases is fully tuition reimbursable by the public safety agency. To determine if your agency offers tuition reimbursement, please contact your Human Resources Department.
Ottawa University and Rio Salado College created two professional degrees uniquely designed for members of the law enforcement industry.
Bachelor of Arts in Police Science
The first of these degrees offered by Ottawa University is the Bachelor of Arts in Police Science. This degree will be the next step for those police officers who have successfully completed a Rio Salado-affiliated police academy within the United States, completed the remaining hours of required general education, and received the Associate of Applied Science degree in Law Enforcement Technology from Rio Salado. Those who have graduated from a Rio Salado-affiliated police academy can choose to complete their Associate and Baccalaureate requirements simultaneously.
Bachelor of Arts in Law Enforcement Administration
The second of the degrees from Ottawa University is the Bachelor of Arts in Law Enforcement Administration. This degree is open to the general public as well as those police officers who are not graduates of a Rio Salado-affiliated academy. The upper division coursework, availability and the delivery formats are identical to those in the Police Science program.
Bachelor of Arts in Law Enforcement
Rio Salado and Ottawa University created the Ottawa Bachelor of Arts in Law Enforcement in partnership some years ago. Since that time, officers from across the nation have completed this fully online program as a bridge to career advancement.
The program was designed, and is taught, by police professionals who bring a wide range of senior management experience from police and other law enforcement agencies to their students. The courses in this program help you enhance your leadership skills and increase your knowledge of police systems and practices. As a part of your Rio Salado Associate Degree, you can apply coursework taken at one of Rio’s partner police academies toward your degree. When you complete your Rio Associate degree, you’ll find a smooth transfer to Ottawa University.
As a special benefit of being a Rio Salado (or other MCCCD) graduate, you will receive a $275 per credit tuition rate as you complete your Ottawa BA in Law Enforcement.
