1. How do I know who my instructor is for my course? How do I contact my instructor?
You can find your instructor’s name in two places. From your My Classes page, click on “quick look” under your course title.

This will display your instructor’s name, section number, and your course start and end dates. You may also email your instructor by clicking on the envelope next to his or her name.

From your Course Homepage, you can find your instructor’s name and email address listed under “contact your instructor.” You can also click on your instructor’s email address to send him or her a message.

2. What is my email address?
All students in the Maricopa County Community College District have a MCCCD Student Email account. Your email address is your MEID@maricopa.edu. Visit our MCCCD Student Email page for more information, including instructions and a video tutorial.

3. Where can I find services such as the library, counseling, and advisement?
The top navigation bar on both your My Classes Page and your Course Homepage contains links to the library and additional services. Clicking on the Library tab will take you directly to Rio Salado’s online library. Clicking on the Services tab will bring up an extensive menu of student services including enrollment, policies, and general information.

4. Where do I go if I need help or wish to contact someone at Rio Salado College?
On the same top navigation bar, you can click on either the Help or the Contact Us tab.

5. What are alerts? When will I receive them, and how do I read them?
You will receive alerts for various activities, such as confirming when you have successfully submitted an assignment, notifying you when your instructor has graded your work or responded to a due date change request, or reminding you when you have not submitted an assignment by its due date. To read an alert, click on the “+” symbol next to the alert to expand it and read the details. If you would like to read all of your alerts at once, click “expand all.” You may remove an alert that has been read by clicking on the “x” to the right of the alert.

6. Is there a calendar available to help plan my studies?
At the top of your My Classes page and your Course Homepage, you will find a link to your calendar. Clicking on the link brings up a calendar with important deadlines such as the last date to drop your class. Your homework assignment due dates are also pre-populated for you.
You can add to the calendar by double-clicking on the calendar where you would like to place your item. A “New Appointment” dialog box appears. Type in the subject of your appointment, specify the start and end time, and then click “save.”

7. Now that I’ve navigated to my Course Homepage, where do I start?
One of the first items you should read is your class syllabus. You can access the syllabus through the link under “Syllabus and Lessons. ” Important items found here include:
- Class information
- Grading procedures
- Required materials
- Lesson links
- Course readings and materials
- Practice activities
- Assignment instructions
You should also carefully read any items posted under the “Announcements.” Your instructor will use this area to post updates, helpful information, and other materials related to the course. You should check this area for new items every time you log in to the course.
On the Course Homepage is a section titled “Assessments and Due Dates” where you will find a list of all of your assignments and their due dates. You can go directly to your assignment submission page by clicking on the assignment name in this list. It is important that you do not skip the lesson and go directly in to your assessment.

8. I would like to request some extra time on my assignment. How do I request a due date change from my instructor?
You may request a change in due date by clicking on “Request a Change” under the “Assessments and Due Dates” section of your Course Homepage. You may also request this change from your Gradebook, by clicking on the “Due Dates” tab. This will bring up an online form for you to fill out including the requested due date and the reason you need the change. Your instructor will respond to this change and you will see an alert as to whether your instructor approved or denied the request.

9. How do I view my course grades and feedback? What other information can I find in my Gradebook?
Click on “My Gradebook” under the “Tools” section on your Course Homepage. Here you will find important information about your assignments and their status.

From the “Gradebook” tab, you can check the status of your assignments, how many times they’ve been submitted, your score, due date, and submission date. The status of your assignment will display as either: submitted, commented, or graded.
If your assignment status is “commented,” you will want to read your instructor’s comments. To do so, click on the “View Comments” link.
If your assignment status is “graded,” you will want to view your grade and instructor’s feedback. To do so, click on the “View Feedback” link.

10. How do I change my course calendar to an 8-week course?
Many of the online courses at Rio Salado College offer an 8-week option, allowing you to accelerate your coursework into a shorter class session. To choose the 8-week option in your course, click on the “due dates” tab in your gradebook. If your course offers this option, you will find a link allowing you to choose a new calendar for your course.

11. How do I check what contact information you have for me on file? How do I change it if it is incorrect?
To view your contact information, go in to your Gradebook and click on the “contact information” tab. You may review the information we have on file. If any information is incorrect or needs to be updated, you may do so using the link to my.maricopa.edu in the “Services” menu.
