RIO SALADO COLLEGE HONOR SOCIETY CHAPTER WINS AWARDS

Rio Salado College’s Alpha Theta Omicron Chapter won numerous awards at the recent Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society regional competition. The competition, held at Cochise College in Douglas, Arizona included community colleges from across the state recognizing local chapters for their achievements.

The Chapter was recognized in the following areas:
  • Distinguished Chapter Award—for highest state scores in the combined Hallmark areas of Leadership, Service, and Scholarship
  • Leadership Hallmark Winner for year-long Leadership programming
  • Service Hallmark Winner for year-long Service programming
  • Scholarship Hallmark Honorable Mention for year-long Scholarship programming
  • 2006-07 Pinnacle Platinum Award in recognition of the chapter’s increased fall membership acceptance campaign
  • Five-Star Status Award to the chapter—the highest program rating
  • Dawn Sears, Most Distinguished Chapter Member in Arizona—Dawn becomes the first recipient to win all three student awards in the state, from Chapter Officer and Chapter President in prior years to Chapter Member for 2006-07.
  • Natalie Elliott, Most Distinguished Chapter Officer in Arizona (tie)
  • Dr. Janine AdkinsHall of Honor for Degree of Excellence in Service to the Society as an Advisor—This is Janine’s fifth state advisement award in ten years.

In mid-April, a Rio Salado delegation will travel to the Phi Theta Kappa International Convention to be held in Nashville, Tennessee. This delegation is comprised of Dr. Janine Adkins (lead faculty advisor), Bruno Rhodes ( Rio Salado program advisor and adjunct faculty member who became an advisor in fall 2006), Elizabeth Arvizu, Natalie Elliott, Beth McNally, Angelique Meehan, Linda Rinzel, Victoria Rosales, and Dawn Sears. Advisors and students will be joined by Dr. Karen Mills, Vice-President of Academic Affairs.
