Test Taking Strategies

The Maricopa Community Colleges recognize that learning takes place in a variety of situations and circumstances. Many students have significant demonstrable learning from experience outside the traditional academic environment. Therefore, prior learning, not life experience, is the basis for the award for the college credit. Credit can be obtained through national standardized tests or departmental credit by examination or evaluation.

Rio Salado offers the following tests for prior learning:

• CLEP: College Level Equivalency Examination Program
• DANTES: Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support
• Credit by Evaluation (2.2.4 - A)
• Credit by Examination (2.2.4 - B)

All of the examinations are administered at the Rio Tempe location.
