What is a Financial Aid Award Notification Letter?

The award letter contains information about your financial aid award at Rio Salado College for the nine month academic year or the summer award period. The type of financial aid you receive is based upon your academic level, estimated cost of attendance, eligibility, and application completion date. You may receive an aid package that contains a combination of grants, scholarships, and loans.

When will I receive my Financial Aid Award Notification Letter?

If you file your FAFSA before the priority date (first Friday in May, prior to the academic year you will attend), you should receive your Financial Aid Award Notification Letter in June. Be sure you have submitted ALL requested documents to complete your file.

What is a Revised Financial Aid Award Notification Letter?

A Revised Financial Aid Notification will be sent to you if any changes occur in your awards. If you receive a Revised Financial Aid Award Notification Letter, please review your awards carefully.

What may affect my awards?

If you anticipate that any of the following conditions may apply to you, contact our office to discuss your options:

  1. Received financial aid at another school for same academic year for which you are applying
  2. Changes in enrollment (audited and credit by evaluation are not eligible for financial aid funding)
  3. Receipt of additional awards such as scholarships, waivers, grants, or Veteran's benefits
  4. Changes in residency (in-state, out-of-state)
  5. Changes in housing status (if you live with a parent, if you get married and move in together)
  6. Information that you are in default on a previous federal student loan
  7. Information that you have received more than the federal maximum on your student loans
  8. Information that you are in a grant overpayment status with the federal government

What if you have extenuating circumstances?

If you feel that you have extenuating circumstances, complete a Special Circumstances form. (These are also available at the Financial Aid Office). If you qualify for any adjustment of your educational costs, your student/parent contribution, or your dependency status, you will be sent a letter which states the change to your status and award.
