Q. Do I need to make a reservation to test?
A. To better serve our students, reservations are not needed to take midterms and finals. The Tempe center also offers the HESI, NET, Work Keys, Accuplacer, and CLEP, which do not require reservations. However, reservations are required for the DANTES test.
Q. When do I have to take my midterm and/or final?
A. Please refer to your syllabus or contact your instructor to find out what day your midterm or final is due. The testing center does not have information about your specific due dates.
Q. What happens if I miss my midterm or final exam date?
A. You will need to contact your instructor. The testing center will still administer the test to you after your due date but your instructor will decide whether he/she will accept the exam.
Q. How do I take my exams if I live outside of Maricopa County?
A. You may have your exams proctored by another college, university or public library. Please refer to the proctoring guidelines at: Click here
Q. Is there a time limit on exams?
A. Yes, there is a 3-hour time limit on all midterms and finals.
Q. What do I need to bring to the exam?
A. You will need to bring a valid, recognizable photo identification to take your exam. PSY230 is open book/open note so you should also bring your notes and books. We provide pencils and scratch paper.
CLEP
Q. When is the CLEP exam offered?
A. CLEP is offered on Monday - Thursday 8:00am - 9:00pm, and Friday from 8:00am - 6:00 pm. CLEP is administered on a walk-in basis.
Q. Which testing locations offer the CLEP exams?
A. Only the Tempe location offers the CLEP exam.
Q. What CLEP tests are offered?
A. Please refer to the CLEP website at http://www.collegeboard.com/testing/ for a complete list of CLEP exams.
Q. How much does it cost to take CLEP?
A. CLEP charges $55 per test and Rio Salado charges a $15 proctoring fee. The fee to CLEP must be made with a check, credit card, or money order. CLEP does not accept cash. The proctoring fee may be made via cash, credit card, or money order. Please note that if you are paying by check or money order you will need to make one check or money order, payable to CLEP and one payable to Rio Salado College.
Q. How long does it take to get my CLEP scores?
A. You will receive an unofficial score immediately after taking the exam. Your official score will be sent by CLEP to the college you selected 3-6 weeks after your test date. Please remember that the unofficial score for English Composition with Essay will not be complete since CLEP must score the essay separately.
Q. Who do I call if my college hasn't received my CLEP scores and it has been 6 weeks?

Q. How can I get information and study materials for specific CLEP tests?

Q. Do all colleges accept CLEP scores?
A. No. You will need to contact the institution where you wish to send the CLEP scores to see if it will accept the credits and how they will transfer. You should contact the institution before you register to take the exam.
DANTES
Q. When is the DANTES offered?

Q. What DANTES tests are offered?
A. There are numerous tests offered by DANTES. Review the list.
Q. Which testing locations offer the DANTES exams?
A. The Tempe location is the only Rio location that offers the DANTES.
Q. How do I register for the DANTES?

Q. How much does the DANTES exam cost?
A. DANTES charges $60 per test and Rio Salado charges $15 to proctor the exam.
Q. How long does it take to get my DANTES scores?
A. DANTES will send your official score to your college or university in 3-6 weeks.
Grades
Q. How do I get my grades?
A. Your instructor is the only person who can give you a midterm exam or final exam grade. If you need the final grade for a complete course, you may find it online. Please go to www.riosalado.edu/grades.shtml
Q. How long does it take to get my exam grade?
A. It depends. For paper and pencil exams, the scantron portion will take 4-5 days from the day the grading department receives it. The bluebook portion is sent to your instructor for grading. It will depend on his/her grading timeline. On-line exams are graded immediately and the essays are sent electronically to your instructor.
Placement Exams
Q. What placement exams are available?
A.ACCUPLACER-This is a computerized exam available at all five testing locations. You will receive your scores immediately after testing.
ASSET-This is a paper and pencil test that is timed at 25 minutes per section. You may take this test by appointment at the Tempe and Sun City locations.
Q. How much does the placement exam cost?
A. Rio Salado does not charge a fee to take placement exams.
Q. When are the placement exams offered?
A.ACCUPLACER-ACCUPLACER is offered at all locations. A reservation is not required.
ASSET-ASSET is only offered by appointment at the Tempe, Sun City, and Luke testing locations.
Q. When am I required to take the placement exam?
A. You are required to take a placement exam before you take a reading, English or math course (unless you already have met the prerequisites). You may also be required to take it before receiving financial aid.
Q. Why is the placement exam required?
A. We want you to be as successful as possible. Research shows that placement testing helps you to enter English, reading and math courses at the proper starting point. These placement results will allow you to have a better chance of completing your courses and earning good grades.
Q. Can I fail the placement exam?
A. No! There is a reading, English and math course available to you no matter what you score.
Q. What happens if I took the placement exam at another Maricopa Community College?
A. All Maricopa Community Colleges (MCCCD) use the same placement assessments and placement scores. Therefore, your scores are valid at any MCCCD campus.
Q. How many times can I take the placement exam?
A. You are permitted to retest in each subject area once. However, you must wait at last twenty-four hours before retesting. Test scores are accepted for two years at any MCCCD college.
Q. How long are the exams?
A. The Accuplacer consists of 3 sections and is not timed. It takes an average of an hour. The ASSET is timed at 25 minutes per section. There are a total of 5 sections (Writing Skills, Reading Skills, Numerical Skills, Advanced Mathematics, and Geometry).
Q. When will I receive my placement scores?
A. You will receive your Accuplacer scores immediately after you test. The ASSET will take approximately 72 hours to grade.
Q. How do I take a placement exam if I live outside of Maricopa County?
A. Please submit a proctor request form and check "placement exam."
Q. Are calculators allowed on the math placement test?
A. You may not use a calculator on the Accuplacer. Calculators are not allowed on the numerical skills portion of the ASSET but are allowed on the Advanced Mathematics portion of the test.
Proctoring for Other Colleges
Q. Do you proctor exams for other colleges?
A. Yes, we do proctor exams for other colleges' distance learning students. We have the ability to proctor both paper and pencil exams and computerized exams. We are a member of the National College Testing Association.
Q. Which Rio testing centers proctor exams?
A. The Tempe location proctors most exams. If you need an exam sent to one of our other locations, please call the testing center at 480-517-8560 to make specific arrangements.
Q. What is the fee for proctoring?
A. We charge $10 per exam for proctoring. We accept cash, check, money order or credit card.

Q. Do I need to make an appointment to take a proctored exam?
A. No, you do not need an appointment to test at the Tempe location. Please call the testing center if you are testing at one of our other testing locations.
