Proctoring Information for Rio Salado Students
Eligibility
You may request to have your exams proctored if you:
- do not live in Arizona or in Maricopa County.
- will not be in Arizona or Maricopa County when you need to take your exams.
If you do not meet these requirements, please view our testing locations to select the site and hours of operation that fit your needs.
Proctoring Process
- Please submit a proctor request form during the first week of class. If you are an GoArmyEd student, please visit the GoArmyEd proctoring page.
- On the request form list a potential proctor and all of his/her pertinent information. Your proctor's e-mail address must be affiliated with his/her place of employment. Private e-mail accounts will not be accepted.
- You are responsible for locating a proctor who meets your needs and Rio Salado's proctoring criteria (listed below*).
- You must submit a request form for every registered course that requires a proctored exam.
- The testing center staff will contact the proctor to verify that he/she meets the criteria to be a Rio Salado-approved proctor.
- If the proctor is not approved, we will send you an email indicating that you need to locate a new proctor.
- If the proctor is approved, we will send all of the testing materials to the proctor. Whether you receive a paper or computerized exam is based on what your proctor prefers or is capable of administering.
- We will send an email to you confirming that the tests have been sent.
- Contact your proctor and set an appointment date and time to take your exam(s).
- When you have completed your exam, the proctor sends the testing materials back to the Rio Salado Testing Center with a proctor/student verification form.
- Once we receive the exams, they are checked in and forwarded to your instructor.
- You will receive your grade from your instructor.
Proctor Criteria
Proctors must be from an accredited university, accredited college, or military base. There must be no conflict of interest in having your proctor administer your exams (e.g. a family member).
Military Base - If the proctor is at a military base; s/he must work at the Education Center.
University/College - If the proctor is at a university or college, he/she needs to be an employee of the testing center. If there is no testing center, the proctor must work in the assessment center, library, disability center, distance-learning center or advising/counseling center.
For a list of NCTA college testing centers in your area, visit http://www.ncta-testing.org/cctc/. Next, click on the option “Click here to find a consortium participant.” It is not guaranteed that all members of this consortium will fit our criteria, but it can be used as a guide.
Yahoo local is another useful tool when searching for a nearby college.
- Simply visit http://local.yahoo.com/ and type in your address.
- Next, type “Colleges” in the field where it asks for Businesses and Services.
A list of the nearest colleges will populate, which can be used as another helpful guide.
You may NOT have your exams proctored
- by instructors, professors, and/or department chairs.
- by any person at a K-12 school, including administrators, teachers, and/or librarians.
- at your place of employment.
- by co-workers, spouses, family members, or friends.
- by currently enrolled Rio Salado students.
Please contact us at 1-(866) 517-8560 (toll-free) if you cannot find a suitable proctor or have questions about proctor eligibility.
Cost
Rio Salado does not charge a fee to send exams to proctors. However, most proctors charge a fee for their services and you are responsible for paying any applicable charges. Please ask the proctor about whether or not he/she charges for his/her services before submitting your request.
Timeframe
The timeframe required for your proctor to receive the exams depends on the accuracy of the information you provide. Exams are sent to proctors within 7 days of the proctor's confirmation. However, the entire process can take up to 3 weeks.
Late Requests
Late requests are processed according to the above proctoring process. We will make every effort to verify the proctor quickly and to send the materials out promptly, however requests are processed in the order in which we receive them. We cannot guarantee an arrival date for tests. If you believe that you may miss your midterm or final deadline, please contact your instructor to let him/her know your circumstance.
Expedited Service
We do not offer overnight or priority mail services, nor do we fax exams to proctors. To make sure that you receive your exams on time, submit your proctored-exam request the first week of class and provide all of the potential proctor's information.
Midterms and Finals
You do not need to make separate requests for the midterm and the final. We send the midterm and final to the proctor at the same time if the course has both a midterm and final. Please note that you must turn in a proctor request for each class that requires a proctored exam.
Dropped Courses
If you drop a course after your exams have been sent to the proctor, please contact your proctor to have the tests sent back to our Testing Center. Also, please notify the Testing Center that your test will be arriving.
