Who provides the dental services?

Dental hygiene students provide services under the supervision of dentists and registered dental hygienists.

What services are provided?

  • Blood pressure screening
  • Oral cancer screening
  • Gum disease screening
  • X-rays
  • Oral Hygiene Instruction
  • Oral Examination
  • Teeth cleaning (prophylaxis) all ages including "Happy visits" for children ages 0-3
  • Deep Cleaning (periodontal therapy) in combination with local anesthetic and nitrous oxide as needed
  • Laser therapy and other adjunctive therapy as needed
  • Fluoride application
  • Sealants
  • Other selective services including tobacco cessation referrals, denture cleaning, implant care, athletic mouthguards and tooth whitening trays

Who qualifies for treatment?

The school is open to community members and their families. Children 1 year of age or older may be scheduled. All new patients, except for children, must have a short screening visit before the dental hygiene appointment is scheduled. The screening allows the student to effectively plan your dental hygiene care. If you have a special dental or medical condition (such as heart disease, contagious illnesses, high blood pressure), a written statement from your physician may be needed before we can treat you.

How do I make an appointment?

Call 480-377-4100 for a screening appointment that determines if you are eligible for a dental hygiene appointment. Screening appointments last approximately 30-45 minutes. If you successfully complete the screening appointment, you will be contacted when appointments become available.

Appointments can be lengthy as students provide all treatment under the supervision and evaluation of faculty. The first appointment usually takes three to four hours and it is often necessary to schedule additional appointments to complete your treatment.

Due to the high demand for appointments, if you must cancel, give us at least 24 hours notice. Otherwise, you may not be eligible for future appointments.

What if I need additional treatment?

RSC Dental Clinic students provide only preventive dental hygiene treatment. For a complete diagnosis of treatment needs, you must see your family dentist. If you don't have a family dentist, here is a list of community dental clinics in Arizona. At your written request, we will send diagnostic X-rays to your dentist.

Do you take dental emergencies?

Emergency dental treatment is not available. Contact your family dentist or go to the nearest emergency room for treatment if you are in need of immediate care.

Where is the Rio Salado Dental Clinic?

When is the clinic open?

The dental clinic front office is open Monday-Friday throughout the year, except for posted college-wide closures and holidays. Be sure to check the Important Dates and Closures page.

Dental Hygiene appointment times vary depending on the semester, but are generally scheduled on Wednesdays and Fridays. Due to the COVID19 pandemic, dental clinic appointments will be extremely limited during the summer months. It is recommended that patients call the clinic if you are interested in making an appointment.
