Celebrate Juneteenth and Your Freedom

Poster Juneteenth, Celebrate Freedom

On this day today in 1865, Texans learned that slavery had ended— more than two years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, which became effective January 1, 1863.  Festivals have been held annually ever since to commemorate the end of slavery and freedom.

We proudly join our Maricopa Community Colleges family in celebrating Juneteenth— the oldest national commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.

We encourage you to take pause to reflect on the meaning of this day and to celebrate freedom.
