A Message from President Smith

Interim President Kate Smith shared the following updates about our continued efforts to help students stay on track, stay connected and succeed — while we ensure the health and safety of all the communities we serve.

Dear Students,

We are delighted to see you are continuing your educational journey with Rio Salado College. Your determination to continue your studies is an inspiration to us, and we are determined to help you succeed. I am following up on my email to you in July to provide updates about the work we’re doing to help you stay on track and ensure the health and safety of all the communities we serve.

Risk management teams have prepared our locations to resume some in-person services beginning Oct. 5, employing CDC, Arizona and Maricopa Community Colleges protocols, including physical distancing measures and the use of face coverings to ensure your safety. Additional safety protocols put into place include:

  • Increased cleanings of public areas
  • Plexiglass dividers at the front desk and other locations, as needed
  • Social distancing ground marker reminders
  • Hand sanitizing stations for student and employee use
  • Face coverings available for student and employee use

We will continue to provide robust remote student services Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m., until further notice.

Some in-person student services will be available beginning Oct. 5 on Mondays and Wednesdays. In-person services include advising, financial aid, business services, testing and counseling.

Check here for the latest service hours.

Please visit www.maricopa.edu/coronavirus for additional updates about in-person services and COVID-19 protocols at the Maricopa Community Colleges.

Our Maricopa Community Colleges are investing millions to help students stay on track. A new Opportunity Grant will provide up to $1,220 in financial aid for fall 2020 and spring 2021 semesters. We also have a flat-rate tuition of $1,020 for Arizona residents taking 12+ credits and dozens of scholarships.

Successful students stay connected. We may be apart but we encourage you to stay connected and engaged through our blog and social media channels, student life programs, counseling services, webinars and listening and learning sessions.

Successful students ask for help. There are a lot of people who want to help you succeed. Please, do not hesitate to contact our counseling team for help with career planning, strategies for overcoming stress, financial hardship or other challenges interfering with your education.

We look forward to being of service to you, wherever you may be. As always, we remain committed to your health and safety and if there are changes in the COVID monitoring, we will adjust services accordingly.

Wishing you continued health, safety and educational success.

Kate Smith
Rio Salado College Interim President
