5 Summertime Success Tips
The summer is a great time to recharge your batteries and relax. A relaxed mind is a less stressful mind—summer gives you a chance to wring that stress out of your head like twisting water out of a soggy towel. That golden, sun-drenched run of months from May through August is the perfect time to read some books, take a trip, expand your palette by trying new dishes, spend quality time with friends and family, lounge around by the pool or get sand between your toes at the beach.
The summer is also a time for reflection, a chance to put those precious hours hiding from the heat inside your air-conditioned home to good use. From taking a class to plotting out your future academic ambitions, here are a few tips and strategies you can use to help stay on track as you work your way toward success.
1. Take a Summer Class
Summer offers you the opportunity to catch up or get ahead on college credits. Need to retake a course or want to pick up a class or two to get closer to completing your two-year degree or certificate? Take an accelerated course at Rio! You can also take single classes as a way to broaden your horizon and “try before you buy.” If you’re thinking of pursuing a new degree program or dip your toe in a new field, taking a single class is a good way to do a temperature check and see if the water is right for you before taking the plunge.
2. Get Plugged into Student Life
Consider taking time to network. Alumni associations, honor societies, volunteer groups, and other college clubs are a great way to both expand your social circle and open yourself up to future academic and professional opportunities. Plus: extracurricular activities and associations look good on a resume! You can locate all the information you need via this web page or by calling Rio’s Student Life and Leadership at 480-517-8050.
3. Become a Mentor
Are you finished with your degree? Consider becoming an active alum. Your college alumni network is one of your best networking opportunities as a graduate. You can contact your specific degree/program department for more details. Reaching out to fellow graduates, instructors, and current students will grow your network and encourage your career path. It also offers you the chance to share your Rio experiences and provide guidance to students going through the same programs you went through. It’s a great way to give back to your community while also developing important leadership and communication skills.
4. Visit the Counseling and Career Services Center
Sometimes it’s good to get an outside perspective on your future plans. Rio’s Counseling and Career Services offers free student resources to help you in your future endeavors: resume assistance, mock interviewing, one-on-one career counseling, and more! You don’t have to face the future alone. Rio is here to help.
5. Plan your Next Semester
