Public Policy Program Open to Rio Salado College Students
Do you like public policy?
Do you find public affairs interesting?
Do you have a special cause for which you want to advocate?
If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, the Student Public Policy Forum (SPPF) may be for you!
SPPF is a 7-month hybrid (online and in-person) program of the Maricopa Community Colleges that provides (1) an overview of local, state, and national public policy making, and (2) promotes citizen influence and involvement. SPPF gives students an up-close experience of how government works and—assuming travel conditions are positive--will culminate in travel to Washington, D.C., during the Spring of 2022. While in Washington, students will have the opportunity to lobby members of Congress on higher education issues that matter to them. As noted on the application (see the link below), SPPF begins on Friday, October 8, 2021, and the application deadline is Friday, October 1, 2021 at 5:00 p.m.
If interested, click on the following link to learn about SPPF’s benefits, requirements, structure, and more: https://www.maricopa.edu/current-students/civic-engagement/student-public-policy-forum.
Once you’re on the SPPF webpage, go to the bottom of the page and click on the blue “Register for SPPF” box. That will take you to more information on SPPF and another blue box for the SPPF application. As indicated, please complete the application by Friday, October 1. Since the application is somewhat lengthy, we encourage you to plan ahead and not wait until the last moment.
If you have questions or need more information, contact John Bastian, Rio’s Coordinator of Student Life, at StudentLife@riosalado.edu or 480-517-8050 (please leave a message).
