Dual Enrollment and Honors

Students in Rio Salado's Dual Enrollment Program can apply for Honors Program Scholarships up to $500 per semester.

Eligibility Requirements

Any student who has legal residency in the United States, has completed 12 or more credits within the Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD), and has earned a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher is eligible.

To apply students must:

  1. Apply to the Honors Program before the third week of class.
  2. Complete at least 3 Honors credit hours through Rio’s Honors Program
  3. Take at least 6 dual or concurrent credit hours during the applicable semester
  4. Complete a free, non-credit Honors course that meets Orientation and Co-curricular requirements. This will be completed in RioLearn. Please watch the video below for more details on how to navigate RioLearn.

Funding

Students are awarded funds based on the total number of credit hours they complete during the applicable semester.

Scholarship Award Amounts

  • $500 for 12+ credit hours a semester
  • $325 for 9 - 11 credit hours a semester
  • $244 for 6 - 8 credit hours a semester

Benefits

  • Cash scholarships and awards
  • Honors credit that is reflected on the student’s college transcript
  • ASU’s Barrett, the Honors College* looks for Honors marks and 15 Honors credits on the transcript. ASU Barrett requires students to complete 18 additional Honors credits to graduate from Barrett, the Honors College 
  • Free tickets to the Musical Instrument Museum and the Phoenix Symphony
  • Help in applying for additional scholarships
  • Access to Honors Forum Lectures and workshops
  • Example workshops include Financial Literacy, Data Analysing, and Entrepreneurialism in the Digital Age
  • Honors Projects designed to expand your critical thinking, writing, and language skills

*ASU's Barrett, the Honors College: (does not reduce the credits needed for the student’s degree, just the number of Honors classes they need to take at ASU).

How the Scholarship is Disbursed

Funding will disburse in batches from the Honors Department to Financial Aid (FA) each Monday. Once FA receives the request, please allow two weeks to receive your funds. If you have any questions, please e-mail riosalado.honors@riosalado.edu
