Certification and Licensure Disclosures

The post baccalaureate educator preparation programs and the bachelor’s degree educator preparation pathway are designed to meet the coursework requirements for a certified educator in the State of Arizona.

For students seeking initial certification or licensure in a state other than Arizona, you may need to fulfill additional coursework requirements, such as a state constitution course or additional student teaching prior to applying for your certification or licensure. In addition, you may need to meet additional requirements, such as passing additional licensure or certification exams.

Students should also be aware that Arizona participates in the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC) Interstate Agreement. Although there may be conditions applicable in other states, such as additional licensure or certification exams, this Agreement makes it possible for an educator who holds a certificate or license in Arizona to earn a certificate or license in another state by means of reciprocity.

Please review the initial licensure and certification disclosures from your state for more information.

Note: The Rio Salado Educator Preparation Program DOES NOT meet academic requirements for initial teacher certification in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin.  Students may be eligible for reciprocity in these states, except for Kentucky, after initial licensure in Arizona. In addition, the Rio Salado Educator Preparation Program in Post Baccalaureate Teacher in Residence also DOES NOT meet academic requirements for initial teacher certification in the following states: Alaska, Montana and South Carolina. Students in this program may be eligible for reciprocity in these states, after initial licensure in Arizona.

After out-of-state students have reviewed the initial licensure and certification disclosures, then:

  1. Speak to a Rio Salado College Academic Advisor to establish an academic program plan. Contact Rio Salado College Academic Advisement at 480-517-8580.
  2. Out of state students need to obtain fingerprint/background clearance to participate in in-person field experiences at a school/district in your area. Please read the information regarding fingerprint and background clearance and download the Fingerprint/Background Check Verification Form.
