Admission Requirements

Note About Application Deadlines

  • TIR applications for Spring 2022 are closed.
    All applications submitted on or after 1/25/22 will be considered for Fall 2022 processing and enrollment.
  • Applications to apply for ADE for Alternative Teaching Certificate for Fall 2022 semester will not be processed until June 20th, 2022.
  • Online TIR applications must be submitted and complete (i.e., official transcripts, letters of recommendation, Employment Verification, and Star Teacher Assessment, received and processed), by September 6th, 2022, to be considered for acceptance into the Fall 2022 TIR Program. Students must be enrolled and able to pay or set up a payment plan in classes no later than September 6th, 2022.
  • Entrance into the TIR Program requires you to complete an application to Maricopa Community Colleges (Rio Salado College) AND the TIR online application. When you complete the Maricopa Community Colleges Admission Application, for the question “When do you plan to begin taking courses” choose the semester that is currently in progress. This will allow time for your applications to process for enrollment in the following semester.

Teach Students

Admission requirements include:

  • Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution. Official transcripts are required for Formal Admission.
  • Passing results from the AEPA (Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessment)/NES (National Evaluation Series) in the content area for which you are being hired. An AEPA/NES content area exam is not required for K-12 Special Education program admission. A middle grade AEPA/NES content area exam is not an acceptable exam for applicants applying to the Teacher in Residence program.
  • Arizona Department of Education application for “Alternative Teaching Certificate” cost is $60 per content area (including adding Middle Grade content to any Secondary content area). 
  • Completion of two letters of recommendation.
  • IVP Fingerprint clearance
  • All Rio Salado College EDU courses must meet an overall GPA of 3.0 to move from semester to semester. Courses transferred into the TIR program count towards this calculation. Courses with a "D" or "F" must be retaken regardless of GPA.
  • Employment verification from an approved school district, public charter or private school.
  • Biographical Information
  • Complete the Star Teacher Assessment: After submitting your online application to Rio Salado College’s Post Baccalaureate Teacher Certification program (Traditional or Teacher in Residence), applicants will receive an email from confirming that the application has been received. Inside this email will be a link to register for and complete the Star Teacher assessment. There are no additional costs to complete the assessment. This assessment must be completed prior to acceptance into the program and will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
