Professional Addictions Counseling

The Certificate of Completion (CCL) in Professional Addictions Counseling program is designed to provide addictions specific education to practicing behavioral health professionals. Courses focus on self-help groups, the recovery process, relapse factors, family dynamics, and the various medical, emergent, and intervention models. This program has also been designed to help professionals meet their educational requirements for state and/or national addiction certification, as well as gain continuing education credits.
Details
This program is not eligible for Title IV Federal Financial Aid.
Students must earn a grade of C or better in all courses within the program.
Licensing and certification requirements vary by state.
- Explain multicultural aspects of counseling in addictions and substance use disorders. (ASD285II)
- Assess current knowledge and research in addictions, disorders, domestic violence, substance abuse, intervention, recovery, and treatment. (ASD285AA, ASD285BB, ASD285CC, ASD285DD, ASD285EE, ASD285FF, ASD285GG, ASD285HH)
- Identify various community resources available for treating addictions. (ASD285, ASD285++)
- Summarize techniques, strategies and treatment modalities recommended for special groups of patients. (ASD285, ASD285++)

To qualify for either the Behavioral Health Scholarship applicants must fulfill the following eligibility criteria:
- Have an active admissions application on file at a Maricopa Community College
- Have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file
- Be enrolled in an eligible non-credit or credit program
- Meet the minimum standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) of a grade C or better
- Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or alien admitted as a refugee
- Enroll in courses at a participating Maricopa Community College
Failure to meet any of these requirements will result in disqualification from eligibility for either scholarship. The Behavioral Health Scholarship is exclusively offered at Glendale, Mesa, Phoenix, Rio Salado, and South Mountain. Failing to enroll in courses at any of these colleges will render applicants ineligible for the Behavioral Health Scholarship.
