Rio Salado College Receives Gold Award from Healthy Arizona Worksites Program For Wellness Efforts

Each year the Healthy Arizona Worksites Program (HAWP) recognizes employers who make efforts to positively impact the health and well-being of their employees & their community. In 2020 Rio was given a Copper award for the college’s employee wellness programs and health-focused initiatives. This year the college was honored by HAWP with a Gold Award!

HAWP's Gold Award is awarded to businesses with strong wellness cultures that provide institutional support to their employees and their families. The mental and physical well-being of everyone in the Rio community is a top priority for the college, especially during a pandemic.

“Our wellness program excels because it is always evolving,” said Maria Bellino, Associate Vice President of Employee Services at Rio Salado. “This award emanates from the support we receive from our leadership enabling the Employee Engagement and Resource Center (EERC) to prioritize well-being for all employees and encouraging employees to practice a variety of wellness aspects in their daily routines. “

Bellino credits the hard work of the EERC with creating a strong culture of employee wellness at Rio.

“They have taken a comprehensive approach to develop programs and services designed to engage our employees in achieving stronger health and well-being,” said Bellino. “We have received numerous positive comments from employees about the wellness program, specifically, the Wellness Wednesday newsletter. I am proud of the EERC and our employees’ commitment to health and wellness.”

HAWP is a statewide program dedicated to providing Arizona employers with the tools and training they’ll need to design, implement, and evaluate worksite wellness initiatives. Managed by the Arizona Department of Health Services and the Maricopa County Department of Public Health, HAWP also connects local businesses with each other so they can share best practices and collaborate on developing innovative wellness programs.

Rio Salado is honored to be recognized as a member of this dynamic community of care.
