Prerequisite Approval
Some classes require prerequisites that need to be met before a student can enroll. They may include completing a foundational class, meeting a minimum grade or passing a placement test.

If you are looking to enroll in a certificate or degree program, follow the Earn a Degree or Certificate admission steps outlined on our Start at Rio webpage. If you are looking to register for individual classes as a non-degree seeking student, follow the I Want to Take a Class admission steps.
Once you are an admitted student, you can register for classes through your online Maricopa student center portal by searching the class schedule and adding courses to your enrollment cart.
You can drop or withdraw from a class through the student center on the Maricopa system portal. Be aware of the deadlines to receive a refund or avoid a "W" on your transcript.
Rio Salado evaluates transfer credits from other institutions and can help you understand how those credits apply to your program. Students planning to transfer credits to or from Rio Salado can visit the Transfer Center webpage for transcript evaluation information, transfer resources, and FAQs.
Many degree-seeking students are required to take a First Year Experience (FYE) course , although requirements vary by program. Contact your academic advisor to determine whether an FYE course is required for your degree plan.

Rio Salado College online classes start most Mondays, giving you flexibility to begin throughout the semester. For a Monday class start, you generally must be registered by that Monday. Students who want to take a BIO class must be registered by the Friday prior to class.
