Rio Salado College President Kate Smith was named one of the Top 50 Women Leaders in Education for 2025 by Women We Admire.
The honorees were chosen for their work in shaping the culture, vision, and success of educational institutions, and serving as community builders who empower others and drive positive change.
As Rio Salado College’s sixth president, Smith brings nearly 30 years of experience in education to her role. She is a highly regarded and enthusiastic leader who advocates for student success on all levels. She understands the barriers that non-traditional students face and is dedicated to making education affordable, accessible, and equitable.
“I appreciate the recognition from Women We Admire and I am honored to be named with such an amazing group of educational leaders,” Smith said. “Education continues to evolve in this ever-changing world. Together we can assess what’s needed and how we can bring forth the programs and initiatives to meet the needs of today’s learners.”
Smith serves in numerous community development roles, including co-chair of the education committee for the Arizona-Mexico Commission and as a founding member of WGU Labs’ College Innovation Network.
She is a member of the President's Forum Governing Board, a founding member of the Taskforce on Higher Education and Opportunity, and serves on the boards of the PHX East Valley Partnership, Friends of Public Radio Arizona, the Maricopa County Community College District Foundation, and the Tempe Chamber of Commerce.
