Rio Salado College is proud to announce a new partnership with Tempe Meals on Wheels, a long-standing local nonprofit serving homebound seniors and adults with disabilities in the community. Beginning Jan. 5, 2026, the Rio Salado Café will prepare 40–50 fresh meals daily to support Tempe residents who rely on this vital service.

Founded in 1972, Tempe Meals on Wheels has a deep history of community service. The organization is led entirely by volunteers, including its leadership and drivers, many of whom come from faith communities across Tempe. Volunteers deliver meals Monday through Friday, year-round, across four delivery routes throughout the city.

“I’m excited about our partnership with Rio Salado,” said Suzanne Niemann, president of Tempe Meals on Wheels. “We now have a new opportunity to grow our organization to meet the needs of more Tempe residents as we establish our relationship with Rio Salado.”

Each client will receive a hot, ready-to-eat meal that includes a protein, vegetables, and a starch. Meals also come with a cold bag containing a small drink, fresh fruit, bread and butter, and two side salads that can be used to help stretch nutrition throughout the day.

“This partnership strengthens Rio Salado’s commitment to service learning and community engagement, while supporting the sustainability of the Café program,” said Michael Hodgins, program director for Rio Salado’s Cafe. “Together, Rio Salado Café and Tempe Meals on Wheels are helping ensure more neighbors receive nutritious meals, consistent care, and daily connection.”
