[Tempe, AZ.] – Rio Salado College is advancing its commitment to workforce development by becoming an Amazon Web Services (AWS) Academy Member Institution. As a member institution, Rio Salado College is now able to provide students with the skills needed to pursue industry-recognized cloud computing certifications. This initiative builds on the Maricopa County Community College District’s (MCCCD) ongoing collaboration with AWS, which began in 2019 as part of a broader effort to develop Arizona’s cloud computing workforce.
The first of three online 8-week courses, designed to prepare students for cloud technology careers, begins August 25. Registration is now open for AWS: Academy Cloud Foundations (CLD110). This class provides students with a detailed overview of cloud concepts, AWS core services, security, architecture, pricing, and support. CLD110 also prepares students for the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam, helping students gain a competitive edge in the workforce.
Later this year, students will be able to register for the AWS Architecting (CLD120) and the AWS Cloud Developing (CLD130) courses. By completing all three classes, students will have the knowledge to take additional AWS certification exams.
“As an AWS Academy Member Institution, Rio Salado College will deliver advanced cloud education that meets industry standards,” said Michelle Traveler, PhD, Faculty Chair of Computer Information Systems and the Central Point of Contact (CPoC) for the Rio Salado College AWS Academy Institute. “With cloud computing skills in high demand, this program offers a pathway for students seeking growing technology jobs.”
“AWS Academy invests in higher education to bolster the worldwide talent supply chain, building a bridge between industry and academia. We’re proud to support Rio Salado College as it cultivates graduates with the real-world, in-demand skills to pursue cloud careers,” said Chris Ott, Global Program Lead, AWS Academy.
With Arizona and Phoenix projected to see high growth rates in cloud computing and IT occupations, the demand for skilled professionals in the region continues to rise. Technology jobs in Arizona are expected to grow 9 percent through 2028 according to the Arizona Tech Council.
All courses are offered 100% online, making them accessible to working professionals and students seeking flexible learning options. Students who wish to enroll in CLD110 can follow the application process outlined online for “take a class.” Once admitted, students can explore the Course Schedule to find a start date that fits their needs.
