Are you looking for a career in a field whose prospects are growing rapidly? Microelectronics and nanomanufacturing is an industry in need of workers. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, semiconductor processing technicians and other workers dealing with microelectronics are looking at an 11 percent growth rate from now until 2034, which is higher than the average growth rate for occupations. The need for skilled workers who can meet this demand is great, which is why Rio Salado College is proud to partner with ASU and Penn State to offer a Microelectronics and Nanomanufacturing Certificate Program (MNCP) to get students ready to break into this dynamic industry. Applications for the grant-funded Spring 2026 program are now being accepted.
The MNCP is designed around courses that will take 12 weeks to complete. The courses are a combination of online lectures and hands-on training in a supportive classroom environment. Hands-on labs may take place at a Rio Salado location or a ASU lab. While no prior experience with manufacturing or microelectronics is necessary, it is recommended that applicants have some grounding in the following areas:
- Basic concepts of science and acclimation to the periodic table
- Basic concepts of chemical bonding
- Basic properties of matter including states of matter
- Background on simple electric circuits (e.g. resistors)
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools (PowerPoint and Word, or similar office tools)
The MNCP courses will cover the basics of microelectronics and nanomanufacturing, which includes laboratory equipment and proper safety procedures. Students will learn about device fabrication, patterning, nanomanufacturing materials, processing, and chips manufacturing while also honing their professional skills.
