Rio Salado College is joining Western Governors University, Lorain County Community College and Miami Dade College in a new partnership with Axim Collaborative to explore how AI can help higher education better assess what students know and can do. The project will focus on building AI-enabled assessments that go beyond memorization and traditional testing by measuring real-world problem-solving and applied skills.
Over 18 months, the colleges will pilot assessment models aligned with employer-validated competencies and designed to provide learners with clearer, more useful feedback. The work will also support the development of shared tools and guidance that other institutions can use through the Open edX platform. For students, especially working adults and first-generation learners, the goal is to create more trusted, career-connected pathways that show not just what they have completed, but what they are prepared to do.
