Seven Rio Salado College students, accompanied by staff member Cori Christenson, recently attended the ISLE (Intercollegiate Student Leadership Experience) Retreat in Prescott, Ariz., joining students from across the Maricopa Community Colleges, Coconino Community College, and Central Arizona College for a weekend of leadership development, personal growth, and meaningful connections.
The retreat featured inspiring keynote speaker MCCCD Chancellor Dr. Steven Bloomberg, along with special guests MCCCD Governing Board Member Tom Nerini and Student Governing Board Member Kelly Sukkha, a Rio Salado College student, who shared valuable perspectives on leadership, perseverance, and the importance of student engagement.
Throughout the retreat, students participated in interactive workshops, team-building activities, and conversations designed to strengthen communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
Even challenging weather conditions in Prescott became an unexpected lesson in adaptability, resilience, and overcoming adversity. Students embraced the experience, demonstrating that leadership often develops when circumstances don't go as planned.
The experience reinforced that leadership isn't about having a title —it's about stepping forward, supporting others, and embracing opportunities to grow.
